The Plot In You North American Tour gets raw at The Senate

March 7th at The Senate in Columbia, SC was straight up THERAPY for all heavy music enthusiasts who’ve been holding in emotions for a little too long. The Plot In You brought their 2025 North American tour through town, with support from Holding Absence, Boundaries, and Acres, and each band brought their own flavor of chaos and catharsis. Nicely sized venue, big sound, and a crowd that came to scream every word. (shoutout Myles Carter for running FOH for Acres, and the hospitality {prayermoji/brown})

Acres

Acres opened things up with a super moody, cinematic vibe. It wasn’t overly heavy, but it hit emotionally. Heavy & clean vocals, spacey guitars, and just enough punch to get people off the wall and into the moment. Not necessarily a pit starter, but a vibe builder forsure. I personally really enjoyed this band, and hope to get to catch them again live in the future.

Boundaries

Then Boundaries came out and just lit a fire under the room; Just straight aggression from the first note. Their set was wild, especially if you've never seen them live. If you weren’t moshing, you were at least flinching. Easily the heaviest band of the night, and the crowd fed off it. Walls of death, spin kicks, the whole nine. It was super awesome to see this in Columbia, as well as just awesome in general to see this band play huge sold out shows in higher cap rooms. The CT based metalcore band dropped their third album, 'Death Is Little More,' on March 29, 2024, via 3DOT Recordings. This 33-minute record is a relentless blend of aggression & pure heavy emotion; drawing inspiration from Dante’s Inferno to explore themes of despair and existential dread. Vocalist Matt McDougal delivers some of his most intense and impressive performances to date, complemented by guest appearances from Matt Honeycutt (Kublai Khan), Marcus Vik (Invent Animate), and Lochie Keogh (Alpha Wolf). Tracks like “Turning Hate Into Rage” and “Blood Soaked Salvation” showcase the band’s ability to fuse crushing breakdowns with melodic elements, creating a sound that’s both brutal and cathartic. Critics have praised the album for its unflinching honesty and sonic ferocity, solidifying Boundaries’ place in the modern metalcore scene, and I couldn't agree more.

If you haven't heard of them, put them on your radar NOW.

Holding Absence

I've seen this band before when they (once again) supported TPIY for the "Watch The Divide Tour" in 2023. Not my personal favorite sonically, but great performers and usually a good show with huge energy. Following up an extremely heavy band like Boundaries, they really shifted the energy of the show, but not in a bad way. They balanced emotion and heaviness perfectly. Their vocalist poured everything out on stage, and the crowd sang those choruses like they meant it. Their most known single “Afterlife” hit especially hard.

The Plot In You

When The Plot In You hit the stage, it felt like the emotional floodgates opened. There was no flashy intro, no wild pyros, just a great & locked in in band stepping up and letting the songs speak for themselves. The production was tight, clean, and moody in the best way, matching the intensity they’re known for without ever feeling forced. They opened with “Don’t Look Away” and never let the momentum slip. Landon Tewers is a vocal MACHINE. Seriously one of the best dual-threat vocalist/screamers in the game right now, but for some reason slept on. Dude can rip your face off one second and then float into a clean vocal that hits just as hard emotionally. You can tell he’s sharpened his vocal delivery over years of touring with acts like Dayseeker and Silent Planet. This wasn’t some rust-shaking performance; this was a band at full command. “FEEL NOTHING” & "DISPOSABLE FIX" were the obvious crowd moments, but the newer songs blended in seamlessly, like they’ve already earned their place in the TPIY canon. They’re not chasing hype — they’re just doing what they do best: connecting through chaos. This is absolutely on of my favorite bands for the past many years, and I can't wait to see whats upcoming for them.

This wasn’t just a usual tour date, it was one of those nights that reminds you why live music still matters, and a hope for larger acts of heavier genres to come to Columbia. Everyone brought something different, but it all worked together very well. Heavy, emotional, honest; just a raw, no bullshit night of great music in a room full of people who needed it. long live TPIY. Check everything regarding them HERE.
